Fraser Mahoney House is part of the historical neighourhood known as Schmidtville. Build in 1864 this building was home to George Fraser, accountant for Alexander Keith. After Fraser, the Scanlon-Mahoney family lived in the building for 134 years.

One of Halifax’s first suburbs, Schmidtville is a Heritage Conservation District originally developed by Captain Christian Schmidt and his wife Elizabeth Pedley. Many of the houses are over 100 years old, with some over the 150 year mark. This community not only seeks to preserve the older homes but preserve a sense of community.
